The Forecast: March Edition

This edition of Gamemoir’s Forecast takes us into the exciting month of March.

February has been a real eye opener in the gaming world, and it seems as though March is looking to upstage last month’s slew of releases. Across the board, gamers will see tons of new content as the 1st quarter of the year draws to a close. So load up on snacks and grab your controllers, folks! March is upon us, and it isn’t showing up empty handed.

south park the stick of truth

No matter how old you are, I bet you won’t play this around your parents.

The month starts out with the long anticipated South Park game that has been in the works for quite some time now. Though the original publisher THQ was shut down, Ubisoft And Obsidian Entertainment have finally completed South Park:, which has been given a release date of March 4th. In true South Park fashion, The game has already seen quite a bit of censorship in the european market, with talks of swastikas, abortions, and well… I suppose you’ll have to play the game to find out what else may be involved.

titan lineup

Step aside, Call of Duty.

Respawn Entertainment struts their stuff on March 11th when Titanfall comes out for the Xbox One and PC. Titanfall is set to shake up the world of First Person Shooters with vertically designed maps, and the inclusion of story elements in a multiplayer only game. Not to mention the giant battle mechs stomping around, just waiting for players to hop in and wreak havoc.

If giant robots don’t get your blood pumping, then maybe Dark Souls II is more of what you’re looking for. The action RPG will also be released on the 11th, and will feature many of the beloved features of the first game. Though it is not a Direct sequel, developer From Software is sure to deliver a fresh, exciting  adventure with the title, which will be available on PC, PS3, and the 360.

towerfall ascension

Waaaaaaay too fun to be overlooked.

The day doesn’t end there, as two more noteworthy games become available to the masses. Atelier Escha & Logy: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky is a PS3 title to look out for. Rounding out the pack, PS4 gets another addition to its library with Towerfall: Ascension which was a finalist at the Independent Games Festival.

Nintendo lovers get an awesome invitation to Yoshi’s New Island, to continue in the usual Mario universe hijinks. The game will have a similar artistic design as previous entries in the series, and follows the titular character on a mission to save baby versions of popular series faces including Mario himself. Yoshi’s New Island becomes available for 3DS owners on the 14th of the month.

final fantasy x/ x-2 hd remaster

Square Enix’s take on Twilight.

Moving foreword, the latest game to get an HD makeover comes from the good people over at Square Enix. Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster will be the perfect way to relive the titles in all of their former glory, with the added bonus of a fresh, updated look. FFX/X-2 will grace PS3’s and Playstation Vita’s everywhere on March 18th.

Things will get bloody when Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z cuts a path onto the 360 and PS3. Also slated for a March 18th release,  this entry in the series follows a new character, Yaiba Kamikaze as he hunts down the cause of a zombie outbreak and his sworn enemy, the legendary Ryu Hayabusa. The mayhem will be unleashed on the 360 and PS3.

Big Boss is Back! Again…

Big Boss is Back! Again…

As far as standalone prologues go (if thats even a thing!), this next release is bound to be a real head turner.  The first part of Kojima Productions Metal Gear Solid V will see the light of day on the 18th as well. Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, the first in the series to use the powerful new FOX engine at its core, has earned quite a lot of speculation over its under 2 hour completion time. Still, the developers insist that it will be a worthwhile purchase to ease gamers into the new gameplay mechanics that will be implemented in the main game Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Ground Zeroes goes multi platform, and will also be available in a digital format.

Nintendo keeps things rolling with Pokemon Battle Trozei, the follow up to the DS game from 2006. Though it isn’t the pokemon format we all know and love, the puzzle game follows in the footsteps of many mobile games with super fun and addictive gameplay that involves matching groups of four similar Pokemon as battles occur on the top screen. Pokemon Battle Trozei hits the 3DS on the 20th.

Cole is already just a memory…

Gamers get to play with their newfound powers on the 21st with Infamous: Second Son. The new protagonist will get to tear up baddies with a whole new set of powers (and style!), and a new city to explore. The action adventure game is a PS4 exclusive, and a console bundle is in the making as well. Sucker Punch Productions is geared up and running into the new generation with all guns blazing.

The rest of the month is a smorgasbord of activity, offering up a little something for everyone. Burial at Sea Part 2, Deus Ex: The Fall, and DIablo III: Reaper of Souls are just a few goodies. There will also be yet another Dynasty Warriors game for those into hacking up hordes of enemies in a bitter ancient war setting. While the latest Tomb Raider becomes free for PS Plus users, Xbox players get Twitch service starting on March 11th.

Lets get gaming!

As the year chugs forward, March is a great example of whats in store for gamers in 2014. With a bevy of hot new releases and updates, I’m sure there will be plenty to keep you all occupied until the next edition of The Forecast. As always, Keep calm and Game on!
