An EA Exec is Surprisingly Frank about the Games Industry

“Let’s make sure this doesn’t get too public.”

Last September, EA Chief Creative Officer Richard Hilleman attended a ‘fireside chat’ at the University of Virginia Darden School of Business and what he talked about was both fascinating and honest.

In his discussion, he discussed free-to-play, says that 85 per cent of game players never use a console, claimed that 70 per cent of Sony’s NFL GameDay used Madden’s code, explains why AAA games cost $60-70, and, if none of that interests you, at one point he says “let’s make sure this doesn’t get too public.”

The video was unearthed by Superannuation and if you don’t want to spend an hour of your weekend watching Hilleman’s comments you can check out the write-up of his remarks on Kotaku.

If, on the other hand, you’ve loads of free time, Hilleman also did a very interesting (and long) interview with PlayStation 4 lead system architect Mark Cerny before the console was announced.
