NBA 2K14 for current-generation is a good game, but it still has its problems.
I have always been a big basketball fan and have always followed it. I have bet on a few games and know that my friends are currently taking part in Fantasy Basketball which I’m interested in starting but I will have to visit this web-site to find more information about it. It’s because I’m a big basketball fan that I buy the NBA 2k games. So, I bought NBA 2K14 for my PC because I thought that there wouldn’t be much of a difference between the “current generation” version versus next-generation. Oh boy, I was wrong about that.
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the game very much like any NBA game that I get my hands on. I mentioned in a post yesterday that I didn’t even realize I hadn’t slept during the weekend because I was having so much fun. I’m loyal to the franchise, but I still have my gripes.
1. A Copy of NBA 2K13
If the only footage you’ve seen of the game is the next-gen version, then the graphics for 2K14 will shock you. I wasn’t expecting it to be at the same level as next-gen’s, but it would have been nice to have a change of scenery. In addition, the PS4 and Xbox One versions will have over 40 hours of new gameplay and game modes.
It feels like the current-gen and PC versions of the game are just one huge title update or DLC for the price of a whole game. I guess they just wanted more money by selling it on more platforms. I would have no problem with that if it truly felt like a sequel, but it’s not.
2. Awkward Cutscenes and Dialogue
I really like how NBA 2K tries to immerse its players by having these cutscenes. However, I must admit that is badly done. Whenever you have interviews, there’s a noticeable gap between the time you and the interviewer speaks. This is also the case when you talk with the GM. The only thing missing is the sound of crickets.
Am I the only one who finds this weird? I find it awkward that there’s only one voice for every created character. I created an Asian character and he always says “dawg” and “fo’ sho.” I mean there’s nothing wrong with saying that, but it just doesn’t fit my character. It’s not just words, but the deep voice too. I like how other games can let you choose a voice or better yet pick one that would fit regardless of race.
It’s quite worrisome that it has been like this in the past two games or so and no effort was made to improve it until now. I’m quite hopeful this is all rectified next-gen version.
3. Frustrating A.I
Maybe this is just a frustration with current technology’s general A.I capability. I was hoping that they improved on this from their past titles. I thought that my team was just bad, but then I started to notice some frequent and strange occurrences. So, I start the game with a comfortable lead. One time I had an 11 point advantage against the Miami Heat. Now, that was a serious challenge.
Game puts me in the bench, and when I come back the lead vanished and my team was now trailing. It keeps happening which really wants me to pull all my hair out! Another thing I notice is how my teammates would just wait for the shot clock to run out while dribbling in one place. I normally don’t call for passes because it will negatively affect my grade, but when I do realize my teammate isn’t doing anything… it’s too late.
There were also moments when I lose a game because of stupid error. For example, I was close to the basket and all they needed to do was pass it to me. What happened? my teammate threw it out of bounds and he was even open for a pass. It wasn’t like the other team was pressuring him. How about the times when they go back court for no reason? There goes my chance of winning the game.
Despite all these gripes, I’ll still be buying future games because I love playing basketball. Hopefully 2K and EA Sports will fix these issues!
